IBEX bicycles come with tools needed for assembly. Assembly is
very simple and instructions are detailed in the owners manual.
Final assembly is generally a simple 4 or 5 step process:
1) Attach front wheel - All models are
quick release.
2) Attach handlebar - Controls are mounted
to handlebar and you will need to mount handlebar to front of
stem (if stem is mounted to steering tube) or in some cases mount
stem with pre-attached handlebar to steerer tube.
If you are installing the stem on an Aheadset
type threadless system, you must tighten the top nut before tightening
the bolts on the side of the stem. For correct pressure on the
headset either check torque settings or tighten down the top nut
hand tight then test ease of turning the front wheel. If it feels
too tight (as though it had a steering damper) then back off on
the top nut just enough to free-up the steering. Some models may
require installation of front brake cable, as well.
3) Attach saddle & seatpost - Saddle
is pre-mounted to seatpost on most models, though you may want
to adjust angle or fore-and-aft position. Some models may have
quick release seatpost clamp while others require Allen head wrench
to tighten. Make sure your saddle and seatpost clamp are both
tight to avoid slippage or creaking. It's a good idea to apply
a little grease to the part of the seatpost that goes inside the
frame - not too much, though!
4) Attach pedals - Remember that the
left pedal threads on counterclockwise (backwards from normal).
It's a good idea to make sure your pedals are on good and tight.
This will help avoid potential problems with both pedals and crank
arms.
5) Additional Details - Certain models
may require additional steps. Bikes equipped with disc brakes
may need front brake rotor installation. Road bikes with drop
handlebars require connection of brake cables and adjustment of
calipers.
That's it! Minor adjustments of
saddle, handlebar & control positioning may be desired for best
individual comfort as well as some adjusting of brakes and derailleurs
(this is NOT difficult - see Care & Repair below for help).
